He also holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and an Associates of Applied Science in Funeral Service Education from Saint Petersburg College in Florida. Kyle's work experience includes having worked for McNeese State University Athletic Department as a student athletic trainer and serving as manager of the Memorial Gym Training Room. He also gained extensive experience in the wholesale sector while working for one of the Imperial Calcasieu Top Fifty Companies, Solar Supply, Inc. Kyle has served as district executive for the Evangeline Area Council Boy Scouts of America. As Senior Consultant for the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at McNeese State University, Kyle served the business community for the five parish region of SWLA. In only five years with the LSBDC Kyle helped create 68 new businesses and over 220 new jobs. He assisted business owners in obtaining almost $25 million dollars in capital formation, translating into over $8 million in economic impact for SWLA. This earned him two state awards as consultant for the LSBDC and has brought accolades and gratitude from thousands of area business owners. He has over 10 years experience in the funeral industry. Kyle began his career in the funeral industry at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas, and has worked at Ardoin's Funeral Homes of Ville Platte Mamou and Eunice, Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder and J.E. Hixson and Sons Funeral Home here in Lake Charles before founding Lakeside Funeral Home. An active member of the community, he is involved in numerous civic and fraternal organizations including Knights of Columbus and the National Eagle Scout Association. Michael Ortego, Licensed Director and Embalmer Emeritus Email: michael@lakesidefh.com Office Phone: 337-656-2628 Michael “Mickey” Ortego is a native of Kinder, Louisiana and is not stranger to the Lake Charles and Cameron Area. Mickey earned an Associates of Applied Science in 1961 from Common Wealth College of Science now known as Common Wealth Institute of Funeral Service. Mickey has over 50 years of experience in the funeral industry 49 of those years as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, having worked and Hammer Funeral Home in Lake Charles, O’Donnell Funeral Home in Cameron, Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia, First National Funeral Home in Alexandria, Moth Funeral Home in Algiers, and Ardoin Funeral Home in Kinder. Mickey retired with 20 years and 1 month of distinguished service to our country in the United State Army after being drafted; Mickey re-enlisted of his own volition. Mickey was assigned to the Army’s Grave Registration Unit in Vietnam and was an embalmer at the Da Nag Mortuary and worked at the Central Identification Laboratory in Thailand and Hawaii. He retired a Master Sergeant from the United States Army and was decorated on 27 separate occasions including the Bronze Star.
