Tammy Lynn Pitre (Hill)
Tammy Lynn Hill Pitre, 42, resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed from this life on March 12, 2017 in the comfort of her home surrounded by those she loved.
Tammy was affectionately known as “TammyStrong” due to her ferocious spirit in fighting her personal war on cancer that ultimately took her from her family and friends. Her legacy will be “the strongest and most beautiful woman” anyone would meet. She was generous with her loving spirit and never knew a stranger. She was an inspiration to family and friends to live life to the fullest and strive to do the best you can. She loved painting, nature, and animals. She identified with butterflies as an expression of her life’s journey.
Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.
Tammy honorably served in the U.S. Army from September 1993 to November 2003 and ended her military service as a Sergeant. During her service to this great country, she was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, South Korea twice and the final duty station being at Fort Hood, Texas. Tammy also severed as a Veteran of Foreign Wars having deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait. She was issued two Army Commendation Medals; three Army Achievement Medals, and three Good Conduct Medals.
Tammy will be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, daughter in-law, granddaughter, niece and friend. She went above and beyond for family, friends and even strangers. She was a blessing to everyone she met.
She is predeceased by her father, Ricky D. Hill; Aunts Diana Ness and Julie (Tammy) Rogers; grandparents: Little Joe Ward, Teresa Hill, Harold Don Hill; great grandparents: Lela Camren, Milton Ward and Mary Ward.
She leaves behind cherished memories with her husband of almost 12 years Gussie Pitre Jr; daughters: Maraisa Amari Pitre, Jalyn Angelique Pitre, and Tierra Sole Benders; mother Jo (Jodi) Ward Hill, step-father: Robert (Bob) McCurry; brother Joey Hill; mother in-law Marjorie Ann Keys Pitre; father in-law Gussie Pitre Sr; great grandfather Virgil Camren; grandmother Joyce Zinn; grandmother Ida Mae Pitre; and host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Starkovich. Burial services with military honors will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
