Obituary for Polly Gilmore

Polly Anne Burgin Gilmore, 78, a resident of Lake Charles, passed from this life on August 6, 2022, in a local care facility.

She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and sister. Polly was an active member of University Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of the Joy Club, a mentor for their youth group, and provided sign language interpretation for the choir. Before her retirement, she served as a Paraprofessional at College Oaks and Barbe High School for the hearing-impaired students and was a licensed beautician. Polly enjoyed drinking her coffee and reading the newspaper daily. Before her illness, she loved gardening and working in her yard.

Mrs. Gilmore is preceded in death by her parents, Louis Monroe and Pauline Elizabeth Johnson Burgin; husband, Shelby Gilmore; son, Pat Gilmore; and two sisters, Geneva Robinson and Francis Daigle.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Lisa Duhon and husband Henry of Lake Charles, granddaughter, Crystal Plant and husband Jon, grandson Louis Duhon and wife Callie, great-grandchildren Elizabeth “Ellie” Faye and Bennett Duhon and Tyler Plant, brother, Donald Ray Burgin and wife Suzy.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of University Baptist Church. A celebration of Mrs. Gilmore's life will follow at 2:00 PM. Rev. John Astling is to officiate.

The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Cornerstone Specialty Hospital, and the compassionate staff of Harbor Hospice.
