Obituary for Kathleen Marie Luna

Kathleen Marie Luna, 78, a resident of Lake Charles passed from this life on July 26th, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Kathy, known to many as June, loved life and had a strong work ethic. She was born in Ville Platte, LA in 1943. After graduating from Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, TX in 1962, she attended Port Arthur Business College where she learned secretary skills, such as typing and shorthand. In 1963, she married and proceeded to have three children. She worked 15+ years at the local radio stations KLOU, KBIU, and LA99 as a secretary. In 1986, she married a second time and moved to Albuquerque, NM. There, she worked at Lovelace Hospital until moving back to Lake Charles to be with her family in 1996. She was soon hired at the Isle of Capri Casino where she was a pit clerk. When they no longer needed pit clerks, they always found a position for her because she was efficient, very reliable, and so much fun. She absolutely loved her job there interacting with fellow employees and customers. She loved the energy and being surrounded by so many people.

In 2014, she retired and stayed home with her family. Her absolute favorite thing to do was to laugh. She said this often…and proved it, a lot.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Florella West and Austin Pitre, and grandson; Erik Perez.
Kathy leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Lori Perez, Teresa Koeck and husband Paul, and Tracy Garcia, her five loving grandchildren: Khristen Sonnier and husband Brent, Edward Perez, Jeremy Johnson, Emily Perez, and, Heidi Nyberg and husband Josh, numerous great grandchildren, and her three beloved cats: Tom, Klaus, and Choco- latte.

In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Luna will be cremated.
