Obituary for B. J. "Sambo" Kourtney
B.J. " Sambo" Kourtney, 84, a lifelong resident of Oretta, LA, passed from this life on May 16, 2021, after a long a courageous battle with lung disease.
Sambo, as he was known by all, was a devoted family man. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and was known for his ability to grow anything in his garden. He enjoyed watching old westerns and comedies.
Sambo is preceded in death by his wife; Delores Kourtney; parents, Charlie and Rosa Sanders Kourtney; son, Johnny Lynn Kourtney; siblings: James Kourtney, Dolly Maddox, Cella Rose Foster, Margie Foster, Esther Hemmenway, Mary Lorenze, Stella Baumgarden, and Audrey Wallace.
He leaves to cherish his memory his; sons, Frankie Kourtney and Michael Kourtney and wife Marla; grandchildren, Garrett Kourtney and wife Brandy, Staci Hollis and husband John D., Mindy Thibodeaux and husband Jason, Cody Kourtney, Tyler Kourtney and Bridget, and Aaron Kourtney; great-grandchildren, Jayce, Andrew, Jordan, Kali, Marley, Harrison, Tucker, and Leah, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the sanctuary of the Church of the Remnant on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 9:00 AM until time of service. Funeral services will 11:00 AM. Pastor Arthur Hemmenway is to officiate. Burial will follow in Oretta Cemetery.
