Obituary

Michael Ray Suydam Sr., 80, a resident of Lake Charles and Ragley, LA, passed from this life on May 4, 2021, in an Arkansas Hospital.

As he was known by many, Mike was a loving father, grandfather, devoted husband, and fiercely loyal friend. He and his wife Jan were active members of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, where Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Golden Harvesters. Mike was strong in faith and the strength of his family. He provided for his family both financially, emotionally, and physically. He will forever be remembered for his integrity, strong moral and ethical principles, and work ethic, all of which he passed onto his children.
He was a connoisseur of wine and loved music. Adept at playing the guitar and harmonica, Mike was known to sing upon occasion. Mike enjoyed having jam sessions wherever he went. He loved cooking, fishing, camping, sharing recipes, making friends wherever he went and was always there for his family when they needed him. His family was his pride and joy.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Charles Americus Suydam Sr. and Louise Boudreaux Suydam; son, Charles Suydam; daughter, Debra Rawson; and brother, Ronald Suydam.

He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Jan Turner Suydam and his children: Michael Suydam Jr., Cheryl Augustine and husband Neal, Monica LeBlanc and husband Eugene, Melissa Mele and husband Patrick, John Suydam and wife Regina; and Jason Suydam and girlfriend Tabitha Marks; sister, Joyce Mattix and husband Rod; brother, Bob Suydam and wife Kathy, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and fur baby Buddy.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2021, in the Saint Pius X Catholic Church Family Center from 11 AM until 12:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the church at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jeffrey Starkovich officiating and Monsignor Charles Dubois as the Homilist. Burial will follow at New Ritchie Cemetery.
