Obituary for Robert L Caswell

Robert Linus Caswell, 83, a resident of Lake Charles, passed from this life onto his eternal reward on February 22, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by those he loved most.

Mr. Caswell was a native of Jennings, Louisiana, and graduated from Jennings High School, where he played football. Robert served with distinction in the United States Air Force, where he retired after 20 years of honorable and dedicated service. Mr. Caswell's three grandsons followed in his footsteps in rendering their country service in the United States Military. He later served as sales manager for the Lake Charles American Press. Mr. Caswell was ever faithful to his Lord and savior. He served as a Deacon at University Baptist Church, where he and his wife worshiped every Sunday.

In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, traveling in his motorhome, and spending time with his family, which included chasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to their sporting and military functions all over the country. He was known to all the teams as “Paw.” He served as President of the Neighborhood Watch Program. He took great pride in manicuring his lawn. No one could do it as well as him.

Mr. Caswell is preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Caswell; mother, Lelia Boone Caswell; stepmother, Lovina (Tootsie) Caswell; sisters, Belle Miller Blackwell, Mae Mills, Lela Caswell, and Vinnie Ann Richard, brothers: Joe, Michael and Ricky Caswell, and beloved canine companion, Precious.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 Years, Lila Dee Ray Caswell; children, Theresa Thompson and husband Leon, Tina Northcutt and husband Mike, Katrina Caswell, Robert Caswell and wife Gay; grandchildren: Michael Northcutt and wife Leyna, Justin Northcutt and wife Laura, Garrett Thompson and wife Ashlie, and Jessica Caswell, seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Vida Lee McFarlain, Bud Caswell, James Caswell, Billy Caswell, and Brenda Stenseth, and beloved canine companion, Bella who stayed by his side until the end.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 25, 2021, in the sanctuary of University Baptist Church from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 26, 2021, from 9:00 Am until 10:00 Am. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 am, Friday, February 26, 2021, in the sanctuary of University Baptist Church. Revs. Charles Miller and John Astling are to officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in the Southwest Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery in Jennings.

Honored to serve as pallbearers: Mike Northcutt, Michael and Justin Northcutt, Billy Caswell, Bert Caswell, and Karl Caswell. Honorary pallbearer will be Garrett Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude’s Children’s s hospital, or the American Cancer Society.
