Obituary for Roland Ray Manuel

Roland Ray Manuel, 76, a resident of Lake Charles, passed from this life on July 28, 2020, in the comfort of his home.

Ray, as he was known to all who loved him, Poppy to his grandchildren, lived his life for his family.
He was a kind and compassionate person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ray was an attentive husband and father, grandfather, and uncle. He would show his love by giving big hugs and displaying the I love you symbol in sign language. Poppy had a playful spirit and a beautiful sense of humor and was even a bit of a smartass for fun. He gave great advice and always had a way of simplifying seemingly complex circumstances. He played the guitar, loved to sing and tell Cajun jokes. Ray was a creative individual and artist including airbrushing and could fix anything with coat hanger wire. Ray was an ingenuitive individual and found enjoyment with the success of repairing broken mechanics no matter the scale. He enjoyed simple things like beer, rice and gravy, cornbread with milk and Steen’s syrup, his mother’s recipe for Lemon icebox pie and lemon heads. But it was torture for him to watch someone eat lemons. Ray will always be remembered for his faith in God and was always thankful for life, love, and family.

Mr. Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Ortear and Anita Fruge Manuel and brothers, Robert Manuel and J.D. Manuel.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Deretta “ Dee” Bergeron Manuel; three children, Monica Marie Manuel Vincent and husband Damon, Tammy Lynn Manuel White and husband Christopher, and Kyle Joseph Manuel and wife Chrissie, grandchildren: Jason Bradley, Katelyn Vincent, Coryn Vincent, Cloe Vincent, Owen Manuel, and Leila Manuel; sister, Carol Harrison, and brother, Larry Manuel.
