Mary Elizabeth Jones, 77, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was born on September 22, 1939 in Lake Charles, LA to the Late Ani (Thelma) Griffin Jones.

She was a native of Baton Rouge, LA where she spent most of her life and was employed for many years at Southern University and Angola State Penitentiary.

Her hobbies were reading, and assisting young men and women to have more productive and meaningful lives.

Mary has her Bachelors of Science in Recreation; Masters of Science in Counselor Education. She was a member of the National Social Science Honor Pi Gamma Mu. She was a Licensed Professional Counselors board of Examiners.

She leaves to cherish her memory her three brothers Otis (Cheryl) Jones of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Richard (Katherine) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, William Jones of Toledo, Ohio and one sister, Ester Ruth Jones of lake Charles, Louisiana. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ani Walter Jones and Thelma Griffin Jones, brother Sidatsingh Jones, nephew, David Jones, and sister-in-law, Charvette Jones.


Visitation will begin Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Lakeside Funeral Home 340 East Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles, LA from 10 AM until 12 PM. Funeral Services will begin at 12 PM. Cremation will follow the service.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to her caregivers that assisted us in our time of need, her nurses Shervon Grey and Kim Henny with Heart of Hospice. Personal care attendants Shirley Miller, Allen Anderson, Jr., Clarence Rosamore, Jr, and Darlene Curtis of South West Louisiana Independence Center. Thank You Lupe Ramirez, Jr. for assisting her in day to day care with extreme patients and love.
