Obituary for
Roland John Johnson Sr.
Roland John Johnson Sr. of Lake Charles, 87 years old, born May 2, 1928, to Abra Johnson and Philemon Bourque Johnson. He went home to be with our Lord April 20, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
Roland was a graduate of Iowa High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served our country aboard the U.S.S. Midway ship. He was a retired Captain from the Lake Charles Fire Department and also worked for Sears Auto Center where he met and fell in love with his wife, Charlotte.
Roland was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. Spending time with his family and friends at Bel-Reeves hunting camp where he was an avid hunter and fisherman are some of our finest memories. He was a mentor and father figure to so many, and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abra and Philemon Johnson; two sisters, Shirley Mistretta and Mary Lancaster and first wife, Melba Derouen Miller.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Charlotte Talley Johnson; eight children, Roland John Johnson Jr. (Johnny) of Lake Charles, Terry Johnson and wife Karen of Sulphur, Debbie Parrish and husband Arthur of DeRidder, Roxane Cummings and Dennis of Lake Charles, Lydia Stanley and husband Gerry of DeRidder, Kenny Johnson and wife Lisa of Westlake, Steven Moe and wife Donna of Moss Bluff, Leslie Hensley and husband Roger of Lake Charles; seven sisters, Una Brashear, Audrey Istre, Billie Smith, Rena Richard, Betty Chandler, Lea Chandler and Peggy Trahan; sister-in-law, Sally Sawyer and her husband Tom; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. The Rev. Katie Simpson is to officiate. Cremation has been entrusted to Lakeside Funeral Home.
His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Heart of Hospice Courtney, Kelly, Thuron, Aaliyah, Ashely, Chondrika and Dr. R.Craig Broussard.
