Obituary for Nathan Glen Yates

Nathan Glen Yates, Sr. departed from this life to be with our Heavenly Father at 10:03pm, June 19, 2015 after a very brief illness. The family was blessed to be with him when he passed at his residence.
Loved by many, Nathan was born on December 30, 1954 in Sanford, FL to Nathan and Donalda Yates. The family moved to Lake Charles in the early sixties where Nathan attended Central School, Oak Park Jr. High and LaGrange Sr. High. He received a track scholarship to Grambling University but instead chose to attend McNeese State University. Nathan married Therese Juneau in 1975 and they had three children, Nathan Jr., Tara and Matthew.
Nathan was extremely intelligent (invited to join MENSA). He had an entrepreneurial spirit but never seemed to stay with one project since there were so many other interesting options. He had many careers in his life and had several businesses. After several heart problems, he moved to Savannah, GA to be near family in that area and later moved to Toledo, OH. He returned to Lake Charles in December 2014 to be near his children and grandson, Hayden. When asked what he regretted most in life, he said he hadn’t had enough time to fish; the family reassured him that he could fish all he wanted in Heaven.
Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, several cousins, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his children, Nathan (Lake Charles), Tara (Austin), Matthew (Lake Charles), wife Therese, grandson (Hayden), five siblings Jimmy (Lake Charles), Paul (New York), Gwen Kersten, Margarita Susan and Laura (all of Richmond Hill, GA), best friends Melvin Addison, Mark Goode, Gary Geheb, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends whom he loved dearly. If the family failed to acknowledge anyone, it was just an oversight. We sincerely appreciate all the ways you have touched his life. The family feels very blessed to have had Nathan in their lives for 60 years.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Wed, June 24 at 2pm at Lakeside Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Pastor Larry McDaniel of Savannah, GA will officiate. Fr. Marcus Johnson will lead a Rosary at 10am followed by visitation from 11am-2pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations for various expenses be made in Nathan’s name to Lakeside Funeral Home.
