Obituary for Charles Williams Shaffer
Charles “Charlie” Williams Shaffer, 71, a resident of Lake Charles, LA passed from this life on July 18, 2019 in the comfort of his home.
Charlie as he was known was a loving father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was a taxicab driver in Houston, TX for the majority of his life. He will be missed for his unique sense of humor and generosity. Charlie’s generosity extended to his friends and family alike. He made the best of every situation and was brought through many different situations by his ingrained determination and strong will.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Raymond Shaffer and Ada Lottie Adams; sisters, Elizabeth Watson and Ada Rebecca “Becky” Shaffer.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Susan Shaffer and husband Michael Gorton of Lake Charles; granddaughter, Eleanor Gorton; and grandson, Ian Gibson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home. Services will be held at 6:00 PM. Rev. Steven Spurlock is to officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
