Obituary for Bernie Lee Hatchett Sr.

Bernie L. Hatchett, 89, a resident of Lake Charles entered into his eternal reward on September 25, 2018 in the comfort of his home.

Bernie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Hatchett was a man of unwavering integrity and highly dependable. Mr. Hatchett loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing until he was unable. Mr. Hatchett served his country with honor in the United States Army. He was first assigned to the Grave Registration Unit and later as a Medic he managed a battle field hospital during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return from active duty he began his family and had numerous occupations until he retired from the City of DeRidder after serving as Director of Public Works for 21 years. Bernie accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord at a very early age. He was a faithful and devoted Christian who based his family life and decision around his faith.

He is predeceased by his parents, Madison and Dera Hatchett, brothers, Curtis and Clarence Hatchett, and his first wife and mother of his children, Gloria Vallery Hatchett.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 15 years, Sarah McGee Hatchett, sons; Bernie Lee Hatchett, Jr. of DeRidder, Kenneth Hatchett, Sr. and wife Debbie of Hornbeck, LA, Herbert Hatchett and wife Janet of Sweeney, TX, stepsons, Ryan McGee of Lake Charles and Brandon McGee and wife Mandy of Magnolia, TX, sixteen grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren, two sisters, Wanda Burnette of Virginia and Jewel Whitworth of Kentucky and a host of friends he made along his journey.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will continue Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 9:00 AM until time of service. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:30 AM in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held later on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 3:30 PM at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
