Obituary for Isabel Janet Macdonald

Janet Macdonald passed away peacefully in her home after a long battle with dementia on October 5, 2017. Janet was born on November 4, 1937 in Camden, New Jersey to James Garfield Macdonald, Jr, and Ethel Janet Macdonald Macdonald.

She moved to Maplewood, Louisiana in 1943, then to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she attended city schools and graduated from Lake Charles High School. She earned a degree in Computer Science from Tulane University. She enjoyed working at Tulane and later at the University of Texas in Austin. She had moved to Austin to take a job with IBM. She chose to return to her first love, academia. Janet’s interest included theater, feminism, and gay rights, writing music, and adopting homeless cats.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Dennis, son Aaron, and brother Jamie.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky; and sons Bob and Ken. She has four grandchildren- William Cipnic, Sarah Grainer, and twins Aimee and Anna Grainer, and three great grandchildren. Survivors also include her sisters Marion Macdonald White and Alice Macdonald Nelson, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In respect of her wishes, Janet was cremated under the direction if Lakeside Funeral Home. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.
