Obituary for Daniel Joseph Mele Sr.

Daniel Joseph  Mele Sr.
Daniel Joseph Mele, Sr. 87, a resident of Lake Charles passed from this life on April 20, 2017 in the comfort of his home.

Dan, as he was affectionately known will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He served his country with honor and retired from the United States Air Force as a Sr. Master Sergeant with two Bronze Stars and later retired again from the National Weather Bureau. Dan Proudly served as a former President of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He lived his life with extreme integrity and honor, two attributes he instilled in this three sons and grandchildren.

Mr. Mele is predeceased by his father Alfred Mele and Dorothea DeVito Mele and two brothers Joseph Mele and Nick Mele.

Left to cherish his memory is wife, Ethel Powe Mele; his three sons; Daniel Joseph Mele, Jr and wife Sharon, Timothy Scott Mele, and Patrick Moran Mele and wife Melissa; sister, Mary Cameron; sister-in-law Santa Mele; seven loving grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two very special nephews; Danny Kouba and John Kouba.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Friday, April 21, 2017 in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home from 4:00PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 8:00 AM until time of service. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Wayne McEntire is to officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Prien Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Gene Poe with Harbor Hospice and David, Kathy and Chase Pendley for their kindness and compassion during Dan's illness.
