Obituary for James Daniel Porter Sr.

James Daniel  Porter Sr.
James Daniel Porter, Sr. (Jimmy) lost his battle with cancer on December 31, 2015 at 8:20 AM at Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles. He was born to William E. (Bill) Porter and Arline Hebert Porter on October 17, 1954. He was a Maritime Electrician, in Nigeria, Africa and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a musician, he loved playing his guitar, writing songs, poems and riding his Harley.

Jimmy is predeceased by his father, W. E. Porter, paternal grandparents W. E. Porter Sr. and Alice, maternal grandparents Manning and Ernest Hebert and Ethel Hebert.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Alice Awenlie Amoabil of Accra, Ghana, Africa, mother, Arline Hebert Moffett of Sulphur, children; James Daniel Porter, Jr. and wife Lisa of Cary, North Carolina, Samantha Porter Whitaker and husband, David, of North Carolina, Candice Porter Darwin and husband Christian of Kinder, LA, Justin Bruney of Iowa, LA, and stepson Kevin Manuel, sisters, Carrie Lee Porter Porche and husband Francis of Kinder, LA, and Mary Alice Porter Moore and husband Pete of Batchelor, LA, brother Charles Edward Porter and wife Rebecca of Lake Charles, grandchildren, Benjamin Porter, Owen Porter, and Wesley Whitaker, Sabrina Whitaker and Tabitha Whitaker, nieces, Vicki Porche Durden and husband Dennis and Lauryn Teer Leslie and husband Aaron, nephews, Brandon and Ryan Porter.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 12:00 PM until time of service in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday. Brother Kevin Willis is to officiate and will be assisted by Jimmy’s Cousin Harry Methvins. Cremation has been entrusted to Lakeside Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Burial with military honors will be conducted at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request the memorial donations be made to the Louisiana Chapter of Colors with a Cause.

The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to the nurses and staff of Harbor Hospice and Dr. Khan.
